Based in the Gower Swansea, in South Wales, I'm committed to providing a professional, efficient local proofreading service. In particular, I have experience of proofreading academic papers for postgraduate students, PhD theses, as well as academic papers for academic staff. In addition to this I have carried out medical editing for healthcare publications. 

Industry Insight into the Academic Environment 

Prior to specialising in proofreading, I spent ten years working on academic projects at Swansea University in project support roles. This provided me with a solid working knowledge of higher education processes and associated documentation. I have observed that some students taking very technical scientific subjects such as Physics, Chemistry or Engineering may sometimes struggle to convey their scientific capabilities and knowledge in written documents.

Grassroots Knowledge of the International Student Experience

As an English Literature and Spanish graduate I understand the pressures involved in ensuring that essays and other assignments, especially those not written in your first language, are grammatically accurate and adhere to the host country’s language rules. I cannot imagine having to do that if the alphabet is also different, in a language that is widely acknowledged to be one of the most difficult. English’s complex grammatical rules are unique and its spelling and pronunciation irregularities even puzzle native speakers. 

Personal Experience of Wrestling with English

It's only now that I'm teaching my two young sons to read and write that I fully appreciate the English language’s quirks and contradictions. Highlighting the fact that correct, consistent grammar has a direct impact on a document’s flow and readability and the examiner’s ability to fully appreciate its content.
